Chapter 19 — Follow-Up Texts
First message, voice note, logistics.
Your first message matters. Keep it short. Reference something from your conversation. Don't be generic. Don't wait too long—24-48 hours is good. If she responds, keep the conversation going naturally. Don't overthink it.
First Message (Same Day)
Spanish: Hola [nombre], fue un placer conocerte hoy. Espero verte pronto.
Word-by-word: Hello [name], was a pleasure to-meet-you today. I-hope to-see-you soon.
Natural English: Hi [name], it was a pleasure meeting you today. Hope to see you soon.
When to use: Simple, respectful first message. Works well.
First Message (With Reference)
Spanish: Hola [nombre], me acordé de ti. ¿Probaste ese café que te recomendé?
Word-by-word: Hello [name], myself I-remembered of you. Did-you-try that coffee that to-you I-recommended?
Natural English: Hi [name], I remembered you. Did you try that coffee I recommended?
When to use: When you mentioned something specific in conversation. Shows you listened.
Voice Note
Spanish: [Send voice note saying:] Hola, solo quería saludarte. Que tengas buen día.
Word-by-word: Hello, only I-wanted to-greet-you. That you-have good day.
Natural English: Hi, I just wanted to say hi. Have a good day.
When to use: Voice notes feel more personal. Good for second or third message.
Confirming Plans
Spanish: Hola, ¿seguimos con lo de mañana a las 3?
Word-by-word: Hello, do-we-continue with the of tomorrow at the 3?
Natural English: Hi, are we still on for tomorrow at 3?
When to use: Day before or morning of the planned meeting.
Rescheduling
Spanish: Hola, algo salió. ¿Podemos cambiar para [día]?
Word-by-word: Hello, something came-out. Can-we to-change for [day]?
Natural English: Hi, something came up. Can we change it to [day]?
When to use: If you need to reschedule. Be specific about the new time.
Following Up After No Response
Spanish: Hola, ¿todo bien?
Word-by-word: Hello, all well?
Natural English: Hi, everything okay?
When to use: If she hasn't responded in 2-3 days. One follow-up is enough.
Asking Her Out via Text
Spanish: ¿Te apetece tomar un café este fin de semana?
Word-by-word: To-you it-appeals to-take a coffee this end of week?
Natural English: Do you feel like getting coffee this weekend?
When to use: If you didn't invite her in person, or if you want to set up a second meeting.
